Hi everyone!

My name is Brandi Scarber and I am a sophomore at Michigan State University studying Journalism with a concentration in Sports Reporting. I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan and I love my city!

I was recently granted the opportunity to be apart of the first Sports Journalism study abroad program ever hosted by Michigan State University. During the program I will be learning about the various aspects of the European sporting culture and be introduced to the various ways they utilize sports media . To have an opportunity for my first trip overseas (and first flight ever) to consist of studying something that concentrates on my career focus, is an opporunity that I could've never imagined having. 

It is not easy to wake up everyday and be motivated and encouraged to pursue my passion, but I do it. Being an African American woman trying to work my way up from a small market, into the field of Sports Broadcasting is not an easy task. At first a dream like this seemed unattainable. However through my experiences over the years I have realized that with a great work ethic and stellar determination, nothing is unattainable. I have a fire like no other, and I am determined to continue to push bounaries.

As a college student who does not come from the wealthiest background, I simply cannot afford this trip on my own. This is why I am calling on my village to contribute in any way you can to help.

The money I raise will be used to cover tuition, travel expenses, class materials and meals during my time in Paris, France and Rome, Italy, both of which can be pretty expensive. The trip will take place May 30-June 27, however, I would like to hit at least half of my goal as soon as possible, because that will help cover flight costs.

I would be so grateful for any and all donations I receive. This is a big leap to for me to take, but it I know I will be okay with the support of my family and friends.
