This is my friend's daughter, a fellow Trini and Naps alumni. She is a beautiful, bright and talented young lady who dreams of going to Howard University. Thank you for taking the time to read her story and support her financially.

“We May Encounter Many Defeats But We Must Not Be Defeated.” – Maya Angelou.

Hi, I'm Andria Destiny Joseph and I'm a 20-year old Trinidadian. I graduated from Naparima Girls High School in 2020 with all A's and distinctions in Science. I was also on the national merit list for Chemistry and Communication Studies.

I'm blessed this year to be one of the 2,300 out of 29,000 applicants, to be accepted into the illustrious Howard University's class of 2025. I will be pursuing a Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering, so that I can make a difference in the manufacture of life-saving medicine upon graduation. The cost of attendance at Howard stands at approximately $49,300 USD per year.

As a result of my academic achievements and over 200 hours of volunteerism, Howard has awarded me an HU Achievers grant. I've also worked and saved during my gap year, but I'm still in need of a lot more finances. For this reason, I'm kindly asking for your assistance.

Covid-19 has affected the finances of many businesses and families like it has mine. My parents have not been able to operate their events business since March 2020 - this has drastically affected our income. Also due to covid-19, the government announced a major cut-back on scholarships. This has been a huge disappointment for me, since I've worked extremely hard throughout High School to fulfill my dream of getting a scholarship to study abroad.

Nevertheless, I  decided I would attend University locally since we have a strong Engineering Faculty. I didn't  know that another disappointment was awaiting me when I was not accepted for their Chemical & Process Engineering Programme, nor any of the alternative degree options I listed. I asked myself how much worse can it get?  Encouraged by my parents, I decided to walk by faith and fight for my dream career as a world-class engineer-leader. This is the reason,  I decided to start this GoFundMe.

If you'd like to assist me on my journey to Howard University, then I humbly invite you to make a contribution to my fundraiser. I'd be eternally grateful for your generosity. My family and I thank you in advance! I may not be able to repay you, but your kindness would not be unrewarded. I assure you that your contribution would not be wasted but would be put to the intended use. God bless you!

In gratitude for your assistance,
Andria Destiny Joseph.

Questions you May Have:

Q: Why was I not accepted to The University of The West Indies' Chemical & Process Engineering Programme?
A: I was given a conditional offer providing I enroll in their pre-science program. The reason given is that I must have Physics at the Cape (Advanced) level - which I'm currently doing privately and would get results before the start of the academic year. Not only was I not accepted for this year, but a provisional offer for 2022 was not given either, pending my Physics. I will only get accepted in 2022 if I agree to do a year of prescience.  Complying with their request means I would have to take another gap year - 2 years before I can start my degree program.

Q: What areas have I contributed / volunteered in?
A: I volunteered over 160 hours as a tutor for low-income students under the Sixth Form Association Services (SFAS) program, where I was also voted in as the Student Affairs Officer.  I volunteered at the Lady Hochoy Home for children with disabilities where I created crafts and charts for learning, organized the library and supervised children during activities. As a member of the President's Award of Trinidad & Tobago, I volunteered for beach and animal shelter cleanups. I also volunteered my service at community events for underprivileged children.
