Support Abe Pratt and his Family after Trench Collapse

Help Support Abe Pratt’s Road to Recovery

On April 11th, a tragic accident changed Abe Pratt’s life forever. Abe — a hardworking, loving husband,
devoted father, and self-employed excavator — was working on installing a sewer line at a housing construction site in the Verona Lakes neighborhood of Fort Wayne, Indiana, when the unthinkable happened.

While working inside an 8-foot trench, the wall behind him suddenly collapsed, burying Abe completely under thousands of pounds of heavy soil. For 5 to 10 terrifying minutes, Abe lay unconscious, completely buried beneath the earth. His survival is nothing short of a miracle.

Thanks to the incredible efforts of his co worker, emergency response teams, including Fort Wayne’s Special Operations Division, Abe was rescued and amazingly, was still breathing! The teams arrived swiftly and worked tirelessly for over an hour to free him from the collapse. He was airlifted to Lutheran Hospital in serious condition, where an amazing medical team gave him the care he needed to pull through.

Abe is now facing a long and difficult road to recovery — both physically and emotionally. Alongside the physical trauma, Abe will also need to work through the emotional weight of surviving such a traumatic experience. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is very real in situations like his, and the path to healing is not only long but uncertain.

Abe is a small business owner who now faces weeks, if not months, away from work while medical bills, daily expenses, and rehabilitation costs continue to grow. He and his wife, Leanna, are the proud parents of two beautiful young daughters — Alyssa, just 2 years old, and Josie, only 6 months. This accident has left their family in an incredibly difficult place, and they need help.

We are reaching out on their behalf, asking for any support you can offer — whether through a donation, a share, or simply keeping the Pratt family in your thoughts and prayers. Every contribution will go directly to help cover:
• Medical bills
• Physical therapy and rehabilitation
• Mental health support for trauma recovery
• Daily living expenses during Abe’s time away from work
• Childcare and family needs

The Pratt family would like to thank the heroic emergency crews, the Special Operations Division, the flight team, and the compassionate staff at Lutheran Hospital who all played a role in saving Abe’s life. Without them, this story would have ended much differently. They would also like to thank their family, and friends, especially the Ossain Volunteer Fire Department and the members of Cuba Mennonite church, for their continued support, prayers and compassion during this difficult time.

Now, with a long recovery ahead, your kindness and generosity can help ease the heavy burden on this young family as they focus on what matters most: Abe’s healing and their future together.

Thank you for standing with them during this incredibly difficult time.
