Support My Journey To The Opera

Donation protected
UPDATE:

I put up this GoFund me page precisely one year ago asking for your support to fund an 8 Week Intensive Singing Course and the Vocal Retreat, which I attended later in the year in Cancun, Mexico, and this is the result!

I submitted a video audition to the Music International Grand Prix Competition and was just selected to be in the Semi-Final Round! The Semi-finals will be next year on January 22nd in Los Angeles, CA. Once this round is completed, I could be selected to perform the Final Audition in New York City!!

I am so grateful for all my experiences, the voice teachers who supported me this year, the new friends I made on this journey, and the fabulous people who donated to my page last year.

I am asking for your help again as I take the next step toward my dream!

The funds will cover additional voice lessons, registration fees, lodgings, meals, and travel expenses.

If you would like a recap, please continue reading the story below on why I started this page. Thank you!

My name is Adeliz Araiza, and it has always been a dream of mine to have a singing career.

I will be using the funds to cover tuition for an 8-week singing intensive course led by Arden Kaywin Vocal Studio. After taking her masterclass, reading her student testimonials, and speaking to her on the phone. This course will break me out of my shell to become the artist I have always wanted to be and get paid for doing what I love.

I would need at least half of the funds ($4000) to be covered within the next 30 days. The rest of the tuition can be paid the month after. Your support in helping me with my mission and purpose in life would mean so much to me. Any amount you can spare, I will be eternally grateful to you, and once paid in full, I will post a video performing a song of gratitude with everything I’ve learned from the intensive to show you all the progress that your support has done for me.

If you want to know more about me, you can read my story below:

I have been singing since I was a child and have always adored performing. When I was in grade school, I served in school musicals, and thrived in choir. I was even selected with another handful of child singers to sing for Hillary Clinton, when she visited the Fairmont Hotel as First Lady back in 1995.

My favorite singing memory happened when I was attending Mission High school, I was the only person in the entire school that wanted to sing Classical music. I was a freshman and sang “Time to Say Goodbye” (originally sung by Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman) for the graduating class of 2001. My mom tells it like this: “All the teenagers were so loud and rowdy, and there was my little girl standing in that big stage all by herself, I was so scared that they were going to eat her alive. As soon as she opens her mouth to sing, everyone became real quiet. You could tell that they have never heard a voice like hers before. Then, as soon as she was done, there was a pause… and suddenly the entire auditorium erupted with applause, everyone stood up, whooped and hollered, as she ran off the stage.”
I was so nervous, I forgot to bow.

When I went to San Francisco State and majored in creative writing, I took a music class for voice, joined the university chorus and women’s chorus, and started taking voice lessons for classical music. Halfway through my time in college, I wanted to change my major to Vocal Performance, but a naysayer said, “don’t waste your time, just finish and get out of here!” It was terrible advice that I regrettably followed because I was also worried about student loans.

After graduating from SF State, music was still a big part of my life. I continued taking voice lessons, I joined the SF Lyric Chorus, and made life-long friends. I auditioned for Lamplighters’ Opera Theater, where I was in the chorus where I sang and danced in operettas written by Gilbert and Sullivan: The Gondoliers, The Mikado, Pirates of Penzance, Iolanthe, and Princess Ida. I also performed with Scales Of The City, an a cappella group based in San Francisco from 2012-2020, singing pop/rock/musicals from different decades.

The pandemic has put my love for singing to a screeching halt as well as put a pause on my income. I’m slowly building back up my client base, but its not enough to completely pay for program tuition right now. As for singing, I still do online musical projects from time to time, but it’s not as fulfilling as being on stage and singing for an audience.

I believe I was given this gift for a reason, and I want to be able to freely express my voice and share it with the world. I am excited to take Arden Kaywin’s intensive workshop, and I truly believe this course will help me and my voice bring joy and inspiration to everyone.

If you’ve read this far, thank you very much! I hope you enjoyed my story and it inspired you to make a contribution. Thank you so much for your time.

Take care and be well,
Adeliz Araiza
