To many of you, this might come as a surprise. Until now, we've only shared what our family has been going through with a very small circle of close family and friends. We've tried to carry this burden privately, hoping each day that things would be resolved and that we could finally move forward with our lives. Unfortunately, after many months, we're still facing an incredibly difficult situation.
Luis has been stuck in Mexico for almost nine months after traveling to finalize the process for his green card. What was supposed to be a temporary trip has turned into many months of separation from my sister, Amber, and their young daughter, Bianca, who have been waiting for him to return home to Virginia.
During his visa interview, Luis was informed of allegations involving criminal records that do not belong to him. Since then, we've hired an immigration attorney and have worked tirelessly to provide official documentation, including FBI background checks, state and local police records, and certified court records, showing that he has never been arrested or convicted of the offenses in question. Despite providing this evidence, it was not accepted. Following that decision, we escalated and formally disputed the matter through a higher level of review and are still waiting for a resolution.
The emotional and financial toll has been overwhelming on everyone. Amber has been carrying the responsibilities of their home on her own while managing her own health challenges, and Bianca, who has medical and developmental needs, has been deeply affected by this prolonged separation from her father.
Creating this GoFundMe was not an easy decision. They've always been the ones who tried to help others, not the ones asking for help. But after nearly nine months apart, they've reached a point where they can no longer carry this burden alone.
If you are able to help—whether by donating, sharing their story, or simply keeping our family in your thoughts—we are deeply grateful. Every contribution will help us cover essential expenses while we continue fighting to bring our family back together.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for standing with us during this incredibly difficult chapter of our lives.
With gratitude,
Luis, Amber, Bianca, and Devan
