Support for Jose during recovery...

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Nicole and I'm asking for help for my husband Jose and our little family. We usually are not the type to really ask for help and always figure it out but this time we have to swallow our pride.

My husband went to the hospital a few weeks ago with severe abdominal pain. He was admitted for 6 days and treated for Colitis and then taken out of work for a couple weeks to heal. It was during this time the we followed up with a specialist who said he'd need surgery for Diverticulitis. What this means is...they will remove part of his intestine and attach it back together and without the surgery he has a high chance of things progressing and needing a colostomy bag. The surgery will take him out of work for about another month.

Update 10/02/23...
Today Jose was admitted to the hospital again with plans for surgery in 2 days. He's been put on antibiotics again and a liquid diet. Surgeons are saying that he will likely need a colostomy bag for 1-3 months because he still has inflammation and they are concerned with leaking. This was definitely hard for us to hear but the alternative is possible worsening and needing a bag for life. So he is going to go through with the surgery as soon as possible.

Update 10/08/23...
Jose had is surgery on Thursday and it went really well, surgeons were able to reconnect his intestine without the bag. He's been in a lot of pain and still has a way to go with recovery.

Update 10/14/23...
He was discharged from the hospital on Thursday. The stairs at home were a lot but he did really good and made sure to rest appropriately. He's taking small strides every day to feel better and slowly easing back into things as doctors instructed. We're so proud of him and so happy he's home. He still has a month to go on recovery but one day at a time.

Update 10/22/2023...
Continuing the road to recovery one step at a time. Tonight was the first time that we were able to get back downstairs and walk a bit. The stairs can definitely be a lot but I am so proud of him for pushing through. He has his one month follow up this week, so we'll see what doctors say about the healing. So hard to believe it's been a month since surgery with only being home about a week and a half.

At this time we are asking for any help you'd be willing to offer to help us cover current medical expenses and other expenses while he's recovering and out of work.

We greatly appreciate your help and support!
