Support for Dalton

Upon meeting Dalton, it's clear there's something special about him. He happens to be a very talented artist, but his talent comes from a deep understanding of people and what motivates and inspires them. It is this trait in Dalton that enables him to connect with nearly everyone he meets, and now it's time for those of us connected to Dalton - and those of us who wish we were - to rally support around him.

This fundraiser was created to support Dalton and Jessica as Dalton battles testicular cancer.

Dalton's road has just begun, but we, his friends and family, have the opportunity to help him start down this path with a unique and important type of peace of mind, financial.

The real cost of cancer

While Dalton has insurance, the out-of-pocket costs for cancer patients in the United States are, in a word, outrageous. A recent Duke study found that on average, cancer patients spend 11% of their household income on out-of-pocket expenses.  The label "out-of-pocket expenses" includes things like co-pays on expensive medicines, out-of-network specialists required for the best care, high deductibles, and co-insurance. It does NOT, however, include the cost of everyday life changes that occur for most cancer patients.

Take, for instance, going to treatment. Whether you pay for gas and parking to get to the hospital or you're taking an Uber or Lyft, the cost just to get to and from treatment isn't included in the 11%, nor is the cost of meals eaten while at a treatment facility. And the average costs associated with cancer treatment don't include the years that follow treatment, in which survivors must undergo regular, frequent scans to ensure they stay in remission - often causing them to spend up to their deductible for years following diagnosis and treatment.

The long term financial impacts of cancer for young adults

A recent study by the SAM Fund  found that there is "a $100,000 difference in the net worth of young adult cancer survivors compared with their healthy counterparts."

How you can help

It's hard to hear that someone we care about is facing something scary, but with this fundraiser, we hope we have provided you a meaningful and simple way to show Dalton your support. Your donation will enable Dalton and Jessica to focus on the only thing that matters - healing. Please join us in showing Dalton how loved he is by so many.
