Hi my name is Emma and my family & I are raising funds for my niece’s cancer treatment.
My niece’s name is Carissa Cavazos and goes by Cari for short. Cari is my deceased sister’s daughter and has been fighting for her life for about 1 year. During this time she was given a very grim prognosis of colorectal cancer stage IV with metastasis to liver. She is not a candidate for surgery or radiation due to the position of the tumor and the many smaller tumors in her liver. She has received 12 rounds of chemotherapy which left her weak, unable to eat or even get out of bed. The nausea & vomiting was a daily occurrence and the loss of her beautiful hair has been unbearable. Due to her response to chemotherapy, it was stopped and now she is undergoing clinical trials with a new drug which seems to be having the same horrible side effects.
Even though Cari has been going through hell, she has always maintained her same sweet, tender & comedic disposition. She has had to quit her job which she loved and in so doing has lost her independence and plans for her future.
As if this is not enough, she has been helping her father in his own battle with colon cancer.
During this past year we have been researching alternative methods to give her some hope in treating this aggressive disease.
I have found that there are so many researchers that have found alternative treatments through metabolic, nutritional, and holistic pathways that have proven promising for many people. Some of these researchers are Dr Thomas Seyfried, Dr. Valter Longho & others. Unfortunately because they are not mainstream traditional & pharmaceutical treatments, they are not even considered in conventional treatment for cancer.
We have found several alternative & integrative clinics that offer these non chemotherapy or radiation treatments but unfortunately because they are not the traditional treatments, they are not covered by insurance. This leaves many people helpless and without hope because without insurance, any cancer treatment is beyond what the average person can afford.
We are turning to our friends, family and all humans out there that can find it in their hearts to support and donate to someone who is fighting for their life. As the song says “ We all have pains, we all have sorrows” but when we reach out to help someone, somehow those burdens seem a little lighter.
We must also speak up & show conventional medicine that it is time to look at the alternative treatments and give patients a choice to try these treatments under the umbrella of their institutions & insurance coverage.
What better way to make sure patients are well cared for by directing their treatment according to their wishes.
As for Cari’s future, we are hoping to be able to take her to see a very innovative doctor who is doing some very promising treatments outside of this country. Maybe one day he will be able to train oncologists in the US to do what he is doing to help stage 3 & 4 cancer patients.
God Bless You!
