Our beloved Mestre Borracha, teacher, mentor, friend, and inspiration to so many in the Capoeira community, is critically ill with cancer. After being in hospital for the past 3 months, he devastatingly does not have much time left with us.

Borracha has dedicated his life to Capoeira: sharing its rhythm, movement, discipline, and joy with thousands of students across Australia and beyond.

Through his teaching, he’s built not just skill but community, helping people of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds find connection, confidence, and strength.

Now, in this most difficult time, we have a chance to give something back.

Borracha wishes for a member of his family to come from Brazil, to be with him during this difficult time. His sister has committed to this request and is now making quick arrangements to travel; to be by his side to say goodbye, to hold his hand, and to be with his wife Greer, his son Tchai, and his two beautiful daughters, Cassia and Lenna.

The cost of her flights and travel will be around $5,000, and time is short.

Your contribution will first go towards getting Borracha’s sister here as soon as possible.

If we’re able to raise more, additional funds will help support Greer and his family through the incredibly hard weeks ahead, covering living costs, meals, and the practicalities that come when a family’s world stops turning.
