Hola! my name is Diana Narváez and I am making the world a better place.
I am committed to fighting gender and income inequality in the US and Latin America by:
1. bringing a fresh, diverse and innovative perspective into venture capital, raising a fund, and
2. funding, developing, and empowering underrepresented and underestimated social entrepreneurs
I am raising $9,999 to unlock access to knowledge, social capital, and professional growth by participating in VC Unlocked: Silicon Valley Online program. This is a competitive and intense investor training for emerging leaders and emerging fund managers who want to shape the future of the venture capital industry.
The investment into this program will allow me to replicate and create opportunities for underrepresented and underestimated social entrepreneurs and impact investors who will in turn positively impact their own communities.

Thanks mom! you inspired me to start this fundraising campaign!
When she found out I had to decline the invitation to attend VC Unlocked because of the financial commitment, she offered to help me! This was very humbling taking into account that my mom is an hourly worker making just a little over minimum wage.

Two years ago, I followed my calling and left a high-paying corporate career to embark into a purpose-driven yet uncertain journey, the world of social entrepreneurship, impact investing and venture capital. And today... i am asking for your help!
In the past 18 months, I have:
1. Lead 5 early-stage investments into tech-based, innovative startups making a + social impact
2. Offered 250+ hours of pro-bono consulting (strategy, marketing, operations, fundraising) to startups
3. Volunteered and organized and 4 international social entrepreneurship conferences opening opportunities to entrepreneurs in North, Central and South America
4. Ran a month Financial Readiness Programs (partnering with a government agency) and 1:1 consulting sessions so that social entrepreneurs could access both debt and equity financing
5. Facilitated more than 50 hours in finance and cost accounting workshops to entrepreneurs and small business owners
6. Connected entrepreneurs with angel investors in Colombia, US, and Canada
7. Referred startups to acceleration programs in México, Colombia, and US
8. Assisted as a judge in multiple pitch competitions, demo days, incubator/accelerator selection committees
9. Currently actively participating in 3 mentorship programs (as a mentor)
10. Currently actively supporting the largest network of angel investors in Colombia, part of the advisor/technical and selection committee
My mission is to create opportunities for others, help reduce inequality, and improve the quality of life of individuals through entrepreneurship, education, and mentorship. My efforts are targeted to vulnerable communities, underrepresented and underestimated, scrappy, and hungry individuals who like me, want to leave this world in a better place than how they found it!
My professional experience in banking and consulting as well as the exposure I got while working in multiple countries in Latin America provide me with a strong foundation and a fresh perspective to pursue and build a path into Venture Capital.
The VC Unlocked program will be pivotal in my development and allow me to grow in various areas. First, the program will help me build and strengthen my skill-set and capabilities by learning best practices from experts, instructors, and my peers. Second, it will give me access to a diverse network of investors around the world. Lastly, I would like to bring a fresh perspective into the field and help open doors to high potential entrepreneurs in regions of the world that are underrepresented.
The program:
VC Unlocked has empowered previous participants to change the landscape of entrepreneurship funding making it a more inclusive and leveled playing field and has opened up opportunities for diverse individuals in venture capital such as women and people of color.
Two very inspiring program alumni and first time fund managers who speak highly about the program and who are making a difference in the VC world! (i hope they don´t mind i am sharing their stories...).

Pocket Sun of SoGal Ventures
Why this cause means so much to me?
There is a lack of diversity and inclusion in venture capital, and this shows ... Minority founders are still being overlooked.
"You must be the change you want to see in the world." – Mahatma Gandhi
“The mountains are calling and I must go.” – John Muir

* Only 2.8% of venture capital went to female-founded companies last year
* Only 1% of VC funded startup founders are Black
* Latinas have received .04% of VC funding
On the other hand...
* Only 3% of VCs are Black and 2% are Latinx
* Two thirds of VCs don't have any women at the executive or partner level
Furthermore, it has been long reported that
* Emerging managers and smaller funds tend to outperform larger scale, established funds.
* Data from the Kauffman Fellows Research Center shows that gender diversity and ethnic diversity are drivers of higher returns for investors.
These statistics clearly show both the struggle and the huge opportunity to impact this industry.
Some of you may be aware that entering the VC world is not easy and even more difficult as a latina women.
This is why I have created this campaign; in hopes of finding some people who are interested enough in my story and want to back my ambition and dream of breaking into VC, bring my diverse perspective, background and experience into a field that needs to become more diverse and inclusive. My objective is to support underrepresented entrepreneurs with innovative ideas that solve the most important problems in their communities.
My gratitude and appreciation for your potential support!
I am extremely grateful and humbled for considering supporting my dream to enter, disrupt, and democratize the VC industry. I would like to create mechanisms to distribute capital to highly talented, gritty, underrepresented entrepreneurs that are currently underfunded.
Thank you for joining me in this journey and working with me to create and offer opportunities to individuals and communities who also have the right to access them and the talent to take advantage of these.
Participating in the VC Unlocked program will be a pivotal step to accelerate my journey!
