My name is Davana “Yaya” Spruill, and I’m asking for your support as I chase a dream that has carried me since childhood: becoming a nurse.
As a single mother to two incredible children, I’ve always known that nursing was my calling. It’s not just a career path—it’s my purpose. I began my Associate of Science in Nursing at St. Joseph’s College of Nursing (formerly PA College of Health Sciences) in August 2023, on the 5-semester plan. I’ve poured my heart and soul into this journey—late nights studying, early mornings prepping for class, and juggling the everyday demands of life as a mother.
Despite the hurdles of finances and the added challenge of extending my program by a semester because of the cost, I’m still here, still committed, and still hopeful.
I’m entering my final semester in Spring 2026, and I’m so close I can almost taste the finish line.
But I’m facing a barrier: I currently have a Summmer 2025 balance of $3203, and a Fall 2025 balance of $279. Registration opens on November 6th and I need that balance under $999. I have applied for 30 scholarships over the past week. Classes fill up quickly; within hours to days.. If I can’t secure my seat, I’ll have to wait yet another semester. That means more time, extra cost, and yet another delay in achieving the dream I’ve worked so hard for. I want nothing more than to walk across that stage with my diploma in hand—and then step into the NICU where I’ve always envisioned myself: caring for the tiniest patients, offering comfort, empathy, and skill. Your contribution helps get me there. Every dollar brings me one step closer to becoming a nurse who truly cares, serves, and makes a difference.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for believing in me, for investing in my future, and for helping a single mom reach her dream. Your generosity doesn’t just pay tuition—it creates hope, stability, and the promise of better days ahead for my kids and the patients I’ll serve.
With deepest gratitude,
Yaya (Davana) Spruill
