The Visalia Football Club (VFC) is group of soccer players who ardently plays soccer on Sundays and some weeknights for over a decade. The team has excelled locally and has been competing in premier national events in 48+ age category, and winning! By the way, they are dedicated and decent pickleball players as well.
Last May, VFC won the prestigious Copa de Mayo 2024 under the “Soccer in Sun” banner. It consists of four separate annual national events- (1) King Cup, Las Vegas, Nv (2) Copa de Mayo, Las Vegas, Nv (3) Harvest Cup, Casa Grande, Az, and (4) Copa RivieraMaya, Maya Riviera, Mexico.
Just last October, VFC traveled to Arizona and successfully defended its Harvest Cup 2023 title in Casa Grande, a 3-day event from Oct 26-28.
The Harvest Cup 2024 event was an amazing tournament where VFC played 6 gritty nail-biting matches, where the team arduously fought for every goal to finally win the Cup outbesting 30 other teams all over the States.
On January 18-20, 2025 VFC will compete in King Cup in Las Vegas. “The King Cup tournament is the number one recreational soccer tournament in the United States. It is an adult men’s 11 v 11 tournament hosting the best teams around the world.” Last year, the team made it to the semi-finals, but this time VFC will try to win it for its beloved city of Visalia, as it had done in 2022. - To go to these tournaments, the team relies mostly on player’s own personal resources as well as from generosity of some friends.
- The team does not receive any monetary rewards in any of these events, only priceless trophies, medals and accolades from peers. To them, winning every match and bringing trophies and sense of soccer pride, to Visalia and California, are what matter most. Also important to them are meeting new players, forging new friendships and challenging themselves to do their absolute best every foot of a way!
Their sense of brotherhood, friendship and team-spirit has been my motivation in whole-heartedly supporting this team, such that I promoted myself as a fundraiser. This way, the team can just concentrate on training from now on.
