Our Story

Every child and student-athlete deserves the opportunity to grow, both on the court and beyond. Founded by a retired Connecticut Educator and one of Stamford, Connecticut’s unsung heroes, and a local Fairfield County basketball legend. Jamal Dunmore, S.L.A.A.M. (Successful Leaders Academically & Athletically Motivated) is an innovative youth and teen basketball development program designed to unlock the full potential of young athletes.

In support of Coach Dunmore’s trusted in well exemplified dealership, we believe that through structured training, academic support, mental health resources, and community engagement, our participants will become the next generation of leaders, scholars, and champions.

Our Mission & Vision

“Our mission is to empower student-athletes with the skills, discipline, and mentorship needed to excel both on the basketball court and in life. We strive to create a supportive environment where they develop self-discipline, leadership, emotional resilience, and a strong sense of community—preparing them for success in sports, academics, and beyond.”

By partnering with local schools, mental health professionals, and community leaders, SLAAM provides a holistic curriculum centered around:

• Athletic Development: High-intensity skill sessions, advanced position-specific training, and competitive scrimmages.

• Academic Support: Tutoring, college preparation (SAT/ACT guidance, scholarship assistance), and STEM exploration.

• Mental Health & Wellness: Counseling, mindfulness workshops, and resilience-building activities.

• Leadership & Self-Esteem: Public speaking, character development, and mentorship from experienced coaches and community role models.

• Community Engagement: Family nights, service projects (food drives, cleanups), and youth leadership initiatives.

As a start-up program, every contribution brings us one step closer to:

1. Securing Training Facilities & Equipment

Gym rentals, basketballs, training gear, and uniforms. This will allow us to provide a safe and fun environment for our athletes to focus, lock in, and surely thrive.

2. Hiring & Certifying Coaches

Salaries, coaching certifications, and ongoing mentor training.

We are looking for businesses, nonprofits, and corporations to partner with. While we already have a great group of mentors and leaders, we still want to add to our financial base for a growing environment of new coaches, teachers, and other professionals that may be a potential asset to any of our programs, teams, or events.

3. Academic & Wellness Services

Tutoring resources, college prep materials, and partnerships with licensed counselors.

4. Scholarships & Financial Aid

Ensuring that no child is left behind due to financial barriers.

Our initial fundraising goal of $50,000 will be matched by our top 2 inaugural investors.

It will indeed support and push us through our first year of operations and allow us to serve up to 100+ young male athletes, providing them with the tools they need to thrive in school, in sports, and in life.
