Dear friends, family, and community,
Ryder was diagnosed in 2020 with a low-grade glioma in his spinal cord, a form of brain cancer that cannot be surgically removed. Since then, he has undergone multiple treatments, including two spinal cord biopsies and several rounds of chemotherapy. Much of this journey has been about buying him time. Time to grow, develop, and live as normal a life as possible.
Ryder is currently recovering from his most recent biopsy and is now preparing to begin his fourth round of chemotherapy.
As he enters this next phase, we are preparing for the physical side effects that come with it. This treatment can cause painful skin sores, rashes, and significant discomfort. His care team has recommended regular exposure to chlorinated water to help soothe his skin and provide relief during treatment.
Ryder is an incredibly kind kid who loves swimming, playing baseball, and gaming with his friends. Even through everything, he continues to think of others before himself. While in recovery from his biopsy, in the ICU he continually asked his nurses how the other patients around him were doing.
Matt and I have always been able to provide for our family. We have never asked for help or donations before. However, this season brings additional needs. One of the options we are exploring to help manage Ryder’s symptoms is access to chlorinated water, including a therapeutic hot tub, to support his comfort and quality of life during treatment.
In addition to this, we are navigating ongoing medical expenses, travel, and time away from work. Any support helps us focus fully on Ryder’s care and comfort.
If you feel led to support, share, or keep Ryder in your thoughts and prayers, we are deeply grateful.
With love,
Alena & Matt
