Support Roer's Zoofari - New Giraffe Exhibit

We at Roer's Zoofari, as well as the greater NoVA community are mourning the loss of a beloved giraffe, Waffles, and his new companion, Belgian, after a devastating barn fire that occurred after the zoo closed for the day on March 9th, 2020.

Waffles was a favorite with our visitors and our team. We are heartbroken. We are so grateful that no person or other Zoofari animals were injured or lost. And we deeply appreciate the firefighters who came so quickly to help extinguish the fire.

Our team is so dedicated to the wellbeing of every animal, so when any are lost, it’s a very emotional time. We will be supporting each other through the healing.

Prior to the fire, we at Roer's Zoofari had begun to make plans for a new giraffe exhibit and barn. With the support of our community we will continue working towards that goal. The new exhibit will be roughly 3 times the size of the previous exhibit and barn and located lower into the zoo near the pond.

Accredited by the Zoological Association of America, Roer's Zoofari is a family-operated zoo located at 1228 Hunter Mill Road, Reston, Virginia. On more than 30 acres, the Zoofari offers animal experiences including a self-drive safari around the park to see bison, camels, zebras, and other animals.
