My name is Gary Whitehouse and I have been Sandy's significant other for the last 12 years. Since the pandemic began I have encouraged Sandy to do a GoFundMe page. Up until now, she has refused as she doesn't like asking people for help. But after being ignored for another request for government aid I convinced her to please ask.
Ravenna’s Varsity Restaurant has been a staple of the community for almost 70 years, and in that time has seen many monumental moments in history. However, none like the truly unprecedented events the last year has brought. The effects of the pandemic on the restaurant industry have been nothing short of devastating. And Ravenna’s Varsity Restaurant has experienced all of this firsthand.
For the last ten months, long time owner Sandy and her now small crew of employees have done everything they can to adapt and change to the new regulations and focus on keeping everyone safe during this time. However, the reality is that keeping the business running and serving the community with the fantastic food we have come to know and love is all but impossible. Government programs and city grants designed to help struggling small businesses are hard to come by, and money is often depleted before deserving businesses like Ravenna’s Varsity Restaurant can access it.
If you know and love Sandy, as so many of us do, you know that she has done everything she can to weather the storm on her own. She has focused on keeping her staff employed while personally working overtime, hoping that her restaurant will still be here to serve the community when all of this is over. So with that in mind, we humbly ask on her behalf that if you find yourself in a situation to support the restaurant, whether it be through purchasing meals or via this GoFundMe page, that you donate as you can.
