As many of our followers know, 10 days ago, our sister rescue, Pomeranian Rescue of NC, suffered a great tragedy. They were devastated by a house fire that destroyed everything.
The 7 Pomeranians in their care were left without a roof over their heads and had to stay in an outdoor kennel. When we heard about the devastation, we mobilized immediately and over the course of 4 days, were able to arrange permanent homes for 3 of the Poms in North Carolina and, with the help of some very generous strangers, transported the remaining 4 seniors to Richmond, VA.
Lady and Scamp were surrendered after their owner, who had cared for them for 10 years, passed away, and no one in the family could take them.
Fortunately, their owner was very responsible and they are current on all vaccines, were spayed/neutered, and are in great shape, ready for a new home.
Momma and Ozzy are a different story. They were picked up together as strays, so there is no history. They are believed to be around 10 years old and are very scared.
Ozzy recoils every time someone comes near him, and Momma has to stay in her harness and leash because she runs and hides whenever you approach her. Obviously, these two suffered some abuse and trauma in their lives.
They both need extensive vetting. In addition to the usual vaccines and tests, they will need to be spayed and neutered.
Their remaining teeth are caked with tartar, rotting, and causing them difficulty eating. It is obviously painful for them.
Due to their advanced age, a full blood workup will need to be performed before any surgical procedures can be scheduled to check that their heart, liver, and kidneys can handle anesthesia.
Given the age of these 4 Poms, all around 10 years old, they will take longer to find forever homes and require more specialized care, food, supplements, and other age-related considerations.
Every dollar helps us ensure these special seniors get the best care to improve their health and help them regain trust in people and move past the traumatic experiences they have lived through.
