Music is a cornerstone in many of our students' lives at Oakland Tech and we need your help! The Oakland Tech music program is desperate for a new instrument storage system. Our current instrument music lockers, installed in 1962, were of limited quality even for the times. Currently, most doors have broken off and instruments are stored in non-locked open shelves.
This has raised several issues. Unfortunately, theft has taken place. Recently, we lost 4 violins and an expensive viola. With our instrument inventory out on open shelves, students use instruments indiscriminately, making the managing and maintaining instrument inventory very difficult. Students have trouble accessing their instruments when needed and storing them properly when not in use. Collectively, this creates unneeded chaos in the classroom and at concerts.
Tech's music department has already raised $8,000 towards new storage cabinets with individual locks. We need your help to get us to the finish line and create a system that will help generations of musicians for years to come!
