Support the New Mexican Naturopathic Association!

The New Mexico Association of Naturopathic Physicians would like your support in providing more outstanding holistic care to New Mexicans. Since our licensure in 2019 under the New Mexico Medical Board, we continue to lobby for expanded legislation for naturopathic doctors. Our primary goal is to lower the boundaries to healthcare for New Mexicans and to increase the number of naturopathic providers in our state. To accomplish this, we need to lobby in upcoming legislative sessions to be included in the Rural Health Care Practitioner Tax Credit and expand our scope of practice and formulary.

In New Mexico, 32 of our 33 counties are designated “primary care health professional shortage areas” by the US Health Resources and Services Administration.1 Increasing Naturopathic provider numbers will assist in fulfilling our state's healthcare needs. Inclusion in the tax credit incentivizes working in rural communities where services are most needed. The Rural Healthcare Practitioner Tax Credit includes all primary care providers except Naturopathic doctors (NDs). The list of accepted providers includes MDs, osteopathic physicians, dentists, clinical psychologists, podiatrists, optometrists, dental hygienists, physician assistants, certified nurse midwives, certified registered nurse anesthetists, certified nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists.2 Naturopaths must be included on this list as we provide primary care in some much-needed areas in our state, including, but not limited to, Taos, Jemez, Santa Fe, Albuquerque, and Las Cruces.

Contributions at this time will go toward our lobbying efforts for 2022 and 2023 and allow us to expand our recruitment efforts for naturopathic primary care providers. Thank you to everyone who helped fund our previous legislative efforts to gain licensure in 2019! Thank you to everyone who has already donated. We would also like to thank our lobbyists for being incredibly generous and working so hard. We are a small group making a significant change in New Mexico, and with your generosity and support, we can expand our scope, accessibility and numbers. From the bottom of our hearts and with the future of New Mexico in mind, we thank you for your support.

Dr. Drea Bustamante, ND/MSOM and the New Mexico Association of Naturopathic Physicians.
