Introducing, Ms. Mildred Robert Brown, or Millie! Found wandering in a park in Southern New Jersey by Animal Control, she was brought to a local shelter, severely underweight and malnourished. Seeing her beautiful face, eyes, and gaze, she caught my attention. Weeks later, we drove almost 70 miles from our home and adopted her. Never doing a GoFundMe page or ever asking for help, Millie has several medical issues, and we now ask for your prayers, help, and support to share her story and donate to cover her mounting medical bills.
From Millie herself, here's her story...
Hi, my name is Mildred Robert Brown, or my new mom and new family call me Mille, and I’m reaching out now to you with a hopeful heart—my name was given to me by the shelter where I was brought after Animal Control found me wandering alone in a park in Southern New Jersey. I was really hungry and weighed just 4.2 pounds.
When I arrived at the shelter, I was immediately placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The ICU is a specialized department that provides advanced, around-the-clock care for animals like me who are facing life-threatening illnesses or injuries and need constant monitoring and medical attention.
I was struggling to breathe and severely underweight and malnourished. The shelter’s medical team began treating me right away. I received a nebulizing treatment to deliver medication directly into my lungs and help ease my breathing. I was also given Prednisone, along with a Cerenia injection to relieve my nausea and vomiting. To treat my dehydration, I was administered Lactated Ringer’s solution injection to help restore vital fluids and electrolytes. I was also put on Doxycycline, a broad-spectrum antibiotic to fight off bacterial infections. Since I was never neutered, I had surgery for that. A few painful teeth had to be removed as well. The list goes on… my poor little body has been through so much.
It all started with a social media post from the shelter—that’s what first caught the attention of my new mom. On Friday, May 23, she made the trip to see me, driving 90 minutes south down the New Jersey Turnpike on her day off. She told me it was something about my eyes… my gaze. She just couldn’t put me out of her mind. At first, she took a screenshot of my post (See attached social media post that caught her eye!) and tried to move on. But something in her heart told her otherwise.
She couldn’t get me out of her mind. Days later, she pulled up the post again—this time to find out which shelter I was in. Even though it was far from her home, she picked up the phone and called. When she arrived, I was still in that small cage in the ICU, but I was safe and being well cared for. She reached in and gently petted me—See our first encounter, I’ve attached the short video for you below.
My mom and me our first encounter at my shelter.
She still remembers feeling my spine, my rib cage… every fragile bone, and still wheezing and having difficulty breathing. It broke her heart. But she left. She went home without me. Still, she couldn’t stop thinking about me. She couldn’t just leave me behind. The following Friday—May 30—she came back. Once again, she drove 90 minutes on her day off. And this time… she adopted me.
In my new home, with my new mom and family—including Princess Emma Grace and Thomas—I’m doing better. I’ve gained some weight and now weigh 5.6 pounds! I have my very own toys, I’m eating well, and I love my new life.
Upon my arrival, my mom wasted no time—by that Monday, she had already scheduled an appointment for me with her trusted Primary Care Physician (PCP), who also happens to care for my new siblings. Since then, I’ve had a full check-up, bloodwork, and multiple X-rays. I've been referred to and seen several specialists for a range of issues—including one emergency room visit for diarrhea and ongoing breathing concerns.
One of the specialists, an internal medicine doctor, agreed with my PCP that to get to the root of my breathing issues, I’ll need both a CT scan and a nasal scope. Additionally, my bloodwork revealed elevated liver markers, and the radiologist who reviewed my X-rays noted that my liver appears enlarged. As a result, I’ll also be scheduling an abdominal ultrasound to explore this further.
My mom has already spent $2,365.92 to give me the care I need, because she loves me that much and she keeps showing up for me with love, hope, and determination. I try to say thank you the best way I know how—by bringing her my favorite mouse toy every chance I get. You can watch in the video I’ve attached!
Me showing my love and gratitude for my mom and new family.
My mom has never asked for help, and neither have I, but the bills are piling up for my medical care, and we need help. I created this GoFundMe page because I want to help my mom, who has already done so much for me.
At my upcoming doctor’s visit on Friday, July 18, I’ll be getting follow-up blood tests to see if the concerning numbers from before have improved. I’ll also be checked to see if I’m strong enough to safely receive anesthesia so I can undergo a CT scan and nasal scope, essential to help my doctors get to the bottom of my breathing issues. I will also need an abdominal ultrasound, because my liver looks enlarged and other medical tests as well I've been told. Then depending on those tests I may very well may need surgery.
I’ve never done a GoFundMe page before, but I want to help my mom out with these extremely costly tests. Thank you for supporting my mom and me. We’re so grateful for any help you can offer.
With love and a hopeful heart,
Millie
