Please allow me to share an incredibly personal and urgent story about my sister, Mary Christine "Mary” Fababier, who is facing a life-altering health challenge.
Mary is a loving wife to Janric and a dedicated mother to two beautiful young daughters (“mikmik” and “dandan” – pictured above). She is an incredibly thoughtful and caring daughter, sister, auntie, and friend and so it was not a surprise when she chose to dedicate her life to care for the most vulnerable as a Nurse. She currently works as a Renal nurse at Carmona hospital and Medical Center(Philippines), where she tends to hemodialysis patients.
Mary as lived a simple life, loved by friends and family and it came as a shock when she fell ill. Back in year 2022, Mary’s left eye started to swell (as pictured). After some tests, she was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and the doctors gave her medicine to cure the symptoms. A few months went on, but her left eye just kept getting worse. And as a nurse, she determined that further test is needed to
get a better diagnosis.
February 07,2025: MRI of the Brain and orbits with IV contrast.
Findings:
- Mass in the left side central skull base extraaxial alongside the left greater wing of the sphenoid measures approx. 3.0x4.3x5.3 cm. The left superior orbital fissure is widened.
- There is extension to the superior orbital fissure extending to the left orbital extraconal space, measures approx. 1.4x3.3x2.0 cm. The left lateral rectus muscle and optic nerve are pushed away from the mass.
- There is left globe proptosis. There is hyperostosis of the left greater wing of the sphenoid and anterior clinoid process.
- Smooth pressure effect on the left temporal lobe but no edema seen.
- Flow voids seen within the tumor.
- No hemorrhage seen in the mass.
- There is diffuse intense homogeneous enhancement seen on post-contrast study.
- No signs of calcification seen.
- No DWI restriction seen.
- Enhancing dural tail seen laterally.
- The left sylvian fissure and left MCA are elevated by the extraaxial mass. Slightly compressed lest ventricle. Mild pressure on the left middle cerebral peduncle of the midbrain left otic tract by the left medial temporal lobe.
- Cavernous sinuses are clear.
Neurosurgeon's Diagnosis(Medical certificate, please see attachment)
- Medial Sphenoid wing mass, left with Intraorbital extension T/C Meningioma.
PLAN:
- Hospital Admission
- For Elective craniotomy, Pterional left; excision of medical sphenoid wing mass under general anesthesia.
Mary is currently seeking an Ophthalmology Orbit Specialist and is not yet accounted for in the total medical expenses that we are currently raising for.
The surgery will be scheduled once she passed her pre-operative clearances, and although we are hopeful, it comes with great risk and uncertainty. Recovery will be long and demanding, and the financial strain is already overwhelming. There will be extensive medical bills, travel expenses for treatment, follow-up appointments, and the cost of essential post-surgery care. Additionally, Mary will be unable to work for an extended period while focusing on recovery, which further adds to the challenge.
We are setting up this GoFundMe to help cover the following costs:
- Surgical expenses: A significant portion of medical bills not covered by insurance.
- Post-surgery rehabilitation: Ongoing therapy and support to aid in the recovery process. The doctors are estimating this to be 4-6 months.
- Daily living expenses: Support for Mary and their family during the recovery period when they cannot work.
Every donation, no matter the size, will make a difference and bring us one step closer to ensuring my sister receives the best care possible. Even if you are unable to contribute financially, sharing this campaign with others will mean the world to us.
We are asking for your prayers, support, and encouragement as Mary faces the journey ahead. Your generosity will not only help ease the financial burden but also provide hope and strength during a time of uncertainty.
We are incredibly grateful for your kindness, love, and support. Together, we can help Mary get through this and come out stronger on the other side.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.Your generosity will never be forgotten.
