Our dear friend and Fallbrook resident, Leslie Wisner sustained an injury resulting in a broken ankle/leg. She was transferred to Palomar Hospital via ambulance, and despite multiple surgeries and 15 days of pain & trauma, her lower leg below the knee had to be amputated. Not only are her personal and medical bills adding up, but it will also be ongoing as she gets fit and refit to get her a prosthetic leg. It is a long, tedious, painful process to prep the leg, get fitted, make modifications as needed, and relearn to walk with a prosthetic leg.
Currently, she is at a short-term rehab that is working with her in regaining self care skills, PT, OT, and helping her become self sufficient when she returns home.
Some of the things that will immediately need to be addressed before she can come home include ripping out the carpet in her room and placing hardwood down, as her wheelchair would not move on the carpet in her bedroom, and her decreased shoulder strength inhibits her from using her wheelchair efficiently. Her bathroom is small and needs some modification to enlarge for a wheelchair, and likely a walk-in shower stall is necessary. Other areas of her home will need to be addressed as well. The extent of changes in her life by far exceed anything imaginable. These are things that are contingent for her to come home safely.
Leslie is coping well while at rehab. She has been through a very emotional journey with many ups and downs. Anyone who knows Leslie, knows her persevering spirit, positive attitude, and zest of living. She is determined to resume her life in it's new normalcy. She has been a part of our Fallbrook community for 30+ years and is a local native. She owns her own business and her daughter has taken care of the day to day operations of it until she is able to resume her role. We need to get these things done for her so she can move forward in life and onto the next step of getting HOME!
Please give any amount you can. Leslie has been in this community the bulk of her life, and she wants to remain here with her family, her friends, her church, her village, her home.
