Support For Jennifer and family
Donation protected
After more than 20 yrs of multiple illnesses and hospitalizations, our daughter, Jennifer Bainlardi Renkevens, has been diagnosed with SpinoCerebellar Ataxia. This is a progressive disease for which there is no known treatment or cure. Research has been minimal.
Jennifer is only 43 yrs old. She and her husband Rob have 2 daughters , ages 11 and 13, and a son, age 17.
Jennifer's first major attack, 5 yrs. ago, left her with some disabilty which she fought hard to overcome. This recent attack, compounded by aseptic meningitis from an IVIG treatment, has left her debilitated. She suffers from severe weakness and ataxia (uncontrolled movements) of her entire right side, tremors, twitching, spastic muscles, and stiffening of her joints. She and her therapists are fighting hard to prevent contracture, but she already has right footdrop. Jennifer also has autoimmune disease, avascular necrosis in both hips, (hips dying) and myopathy . The disease is also starting to progress to her left side and is affecting her chest and throat. She is in intensive therapy to try to reprogram her brain to recognize her foot movements. She is unable to walk without major support. Her therapists are hoping to fit her with leg and knee braces to assist her in walking a short distance with a walker. She will require a special bed, a good wheelchair and some disability improvements in their bathroom when she is discharged from the rehabilitation hospital.
Jenn's husband Rob works long hours to support the family, but medical bills over the years for Jennifer have depleted their savings, including any college funds for the children.
Her dad and I are doing the best we can to help provide support to the family. Jennifer has a strong will and has shown great strength over the years, but this is a progressive disease and she will require a great deal of help when she returns home. We thank everyone who have been praying for a remission.
We are starting this fund to help with present and future needs of Jennifer and her family. Please pray that God gives them strength.
Thank you in advance to friends, family and good samaritans for your generosity. Please share this post.
