On New Year’s Day, a young couple with a one-year old little girl was found sleeping at the JFK airport by an Ossining, NY resident. They had recently been released from Customs and Border Protection custody after a grueling three month migration journey from Brazil. They were stranded at the airport after being abandoned there by someone who did not show up to pick them up. The Ossining resident took compassion for their situation and decided to drive them back to Ossining and asked the community for their help. Quickly, another Ossining family offered to host the young family and they have now been able to secure temporary housing for the next two weeks by generous Ossining community members.

However, this is not a permanent solution. The Ossining community in particular, and all of Westchester county has become the new home of many hard working immigrants from all walks of life. Many of us have had personal experience or know of someone who has endured the migration journey and are all too aware of the many challenges this young family faces. Fortunately, it has been the solidarity and generosity of the community that has often made building a new life here possible. We ask you to please continue this spirit of giving and assist this young family in need.

The father is young and ready to work, he has taken on jobs shoveling snow and is in search of more permanent work. The mother is currently looking after her one-year old child and is looking for child care to also be at work. In the meantime, the money raised from this gofundme will go towards securing a studio apartment for the family and legal fees associated with their immigration case. This will help them get on their feet as they adjust to life in the United States.
