Denmark, Sweden, Germany - Study Abroad!

Hey! Have you ever had a surprise opportunity to acheive one of your dreams? A big dream, that maybe before seemed almost impossible? I have one now, and as banal as it would sound to some, it is a huge undertaking for me! I am hoping to go on a study abroad trip to experience Global Business firsthand and help me further my academic and career goals. Fundraising is my last available option to help cover the cost, and I need some help!

Why I Dare to Dream: I have been interested in different languages and cultures since I was very little. In 2nd grade I even began teaching myself Spanish! During the inevitable torture from 5th to 11th grade for being different, I began seeking opportunities to overcome discrimination and sterotyping of all kinds to help others see that everyone is unique and valuable in different ways. My way is through helping others by bridging the gap between needs and resources, but to help even more people, I need to think bigger.

The Bigger Picture: One way to expand cultural knowledge, connect people to resources, and impact others' lives is through sustainable and socially responsible business. Business shouldn't be a dirty word. It should be a word that stands for innovation, growth, opportunity, and hope. I began my work on my Associate's Degree in Business Administration in 2011. After I receive my degree next year, I am planning to transfer to a 4-year university and get my Bachelor's Degree in International Business. Eventually I hope to work as a consultant for sustainable companies that seek to expand globally or that seek to develop/fund socially responsible initiatives.

The Actual Picture: The photo I chose for my page is from our fashion show during our college's very first International Festival last year! That's me in the middle-left, in the red and blue. This was an initiative taken on by our International Students' Organization (ISO). I have been fortunate enough to be involved in this group for almost two years. Our group is like an extended family. ISO has given me the opportunity to meet and work with amazing students who are working hard to acheive their academic and career goals in a foreign country, speaking a second (or third) language, and paying two to three times more than our in-state tuition! It has also given all students a very diverse place to come to learn, grow, and have fun! Now I know that if I truly want to expand my opportunities globally, I will need to work very hard and be persistent. Through this organization I was told about a study abroad opportunity to travel to Denmark, Sweden, and Germany to earn college credit and explore: Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Global Marketing, Cultural Awareness, Business Skills, Team Work, Sustainable Energy, and E.U. - U.S. Trade Agreements! Everything I could dream of!

Now comes the reason I chose GoFundMe: I am 20 years old, and have been the only one in my household working for almost a year now. My job as the Advertising Manager at the student newspaper is part-time at minimum wage, and money always flows out of my house easier than in. I am running about $1,500 short for my trip cost and the deadline is March 28th! Fundraising is my last available option to make up this difference. I have chosen GoFundMe so I can do an all or nothing campaign, because if I do not reach my goal in time for the deadline, I will not be participating in the trip and will not accept any money from supporters.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read through my situation and understand my hopes and goals for this trip! I would appreciate any support at all or even prayers or good thoughts sent my way!

Forever grateful,

Katie Hering
