Retired Couple w/Downs Son Flooded
Donation protected
PLEASE HELP my sister and her family: Paula, who recently suffered a stroke, her husband Tom, who has leukemia, and Jeffrey, their adult son, who is developmentally challenged,—they all desperately need your help.
Who are the Stringers? They are a good and caring Christian family. Paula is my older sister. Tom is her husband of 45 years, and Jeffrey is their adult son with Down Syndrome. When the Louisiana floods struck, my sister and her family were forced to walk out of their neighborhood in waist-deep water, with only the clothes on their backs. The home they walked away from was destroyed by a deluge of over 5 feet of river water and sewage. Labeled as a once-in-a-thousand years flood, flood insurance was not considered a necessity, and Paula and Tom had none. Now, they have lost everything that they have worked hard for so many years to build, that is, the modest, but caring and cozy home for their special needs son.
I believe it is important to note that this is not the first heartbreak for this close and loving family. Years back, while bringing up their severely handicapped child, Jeffrey, their 18-year-old son, Tommy, was killed in an auto accident. Paula and Tom had so much hope for Tommy. As an loving older brother to Jeffrey, my sister and brother-in-law felt a sense of calm that, once they were gone, they could count on Tommy being there for his brother Jeffrey.
Now, Paula, Tom, and the sweet-natured Jeffrey are homeless; and all three suffer from a variety of serious health conditions. For my sister and her husband, their biggest concern is the well-being of child-like Jeffrey, who does not quite understand what has happened, and longs to return home to his old bedroom and his stuffed animals--all lost in the floods. With their own serious health issues, and having only just paid off their mortgage, the comfort that Paula and Tom felt in the knowledge that they had a secure home, particularly for their son, has been destroyed.
I live in Ohio and other family members reside in other states. It is our hope to raise enough money through GoFundMe for Paula, Tom, and Jeffrey, to help them to begin to rebuild their home and their lives. This couple’s advanced ages, poor health, and the special medical care that they and their son all require create a particularly compelling and immediate need for assistance.
Any donation, no matter how small, will be greatly appreciated! Please share this with others. Thank you in advance for your sacrifice and may God bless you.
