Father of Five Suffering Blindness at Risk of Eviction
Donation protected
Dear Friends,
I am writing to you today with an urgent appeal to help our dear friend, Glenn W, and his family. They are facing eviction from their home in Bonaire, GA, and are in desperate need of financial support to bridge a critical gap.
Glenn is a father of five children: an 18-year-old son with special needs, twin 2-year-old daughters, a 4-year-old daughter, and a 14-year-old daughter. He has been battling severe vision loss due to angle-closure glaucoma, resulting in total blindness in his left eye and severely diminished vision in his right eye. This has made it impossible for him to work and provide for his family, as he can't even see food on his plate or tie his shoes without assistance.
Glenn's application for Social Security disability was expedited, and he received his first disability payment on June 18, 2025. A portion of his disabled son's July 2025 SSI benefits and Glenn's July 2025 SSI payment will go toward the rent Glenn owes for April, May, and June 2025. He will also owe for July, making a total of $3,800 needed to cover his rent through July 2025 (each month is $950.00).
The family fell behind on rent for three months, totaling $2,850.00, after Glenn lost his job on April 14, 2025, due to his worsening vision. Glenn received an eviction notice on June 5, 2025. His eviction hearing was held on June 27, 2025, and the Magistrate Court Judge ruled to evict Glenn and his family, despite his landlord and the judge being aware that he is now receiving disability payments and is in a better position to meet his monthly rent obligations.
Glenn can appeal to the Houston County Superior Court, but he needs to deposit the rent for April, May, June, and July 2025 into the Court's registry. This appeal would provide Glenn and his common-law wife with time to find another dwelling. Glenn's severe vision impairment makes his housing search incredibly difficult.
Despite Glenn's worsening vision and urgent need for eye surgery to potentially preserve what little sight remains, the looming eviction has made it incredibly difficult to address this critical medical need.
Without immediate financial assistance, Glenn and his five children could lose their home. Imagine the stress and fear this family is enduring, especially for Glenn, who is navigating total blindness in one eye and severely limited vision in the other. Your contribution, no matter how small, can make a monumental difference in keeping this family housed and giving them the stability they desperately need while Glenn's disability benefits are fully processed.
