St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Makawao needs the community’s help after Hurricane Lala caused significant damage to the convent, thrift shop, and St. Joseph’s Early Learning Center. Luckily the chapel itself seems to be ok.
A tree uprooted during the storm and fell onto the roof, and the inside has also flooded. This has been especially heartbreaking because the convent had been undergoing renovations for nuns to move in soon, and now those plans are uncertain while the full extent of the damage is still being assessed.
Right now, support for St. Joseph’s Catholic Church will help as the damage is evaluated and as repairs and replacements begin for what was lost in the storm. This church is an important piece of Makawao’s history, and its thrift shop serves the community by receiving donated goods and helping get them to people in need. Many items are even given away for free to those who need them most.
Please help St. Joseph’s Catholic Church recover from this setback so it can continue to serve Makawao with care, faith, and generosity for years to come.
(My family has attended this church for generations, so I set this up on their behalf and will add them as the beneficiary so they can directly deposit funds into their account over the next few days)
