Steven Hurlburt's Football Trip

Donation protected
As most of you know, 2 years ago we acquired a pretty amazing kid from Hudson & Bryce’s football team. We’re not sure exactly how it happened, but it was definitely meant to be. That year Hudson and Bryce were playing Fullerton Bears and Steven was a player on their team. David was on the coaching staff and Steven needed a ride to and from practice. David remembered Steven’s dad from their own Fullerton youth sports days and was the first to volunteer. It started off as just a ride… but we soon realized that he needed much more. Everyone falls upon hard times and Steven’s family was in the middle of their own. I am not one to judge and I’m positive that Steven’s parents love him and want the best for him.

That first weekend of the season was David’s weekend with the kids and he invited Steven to stay with them. The next weekend David told me that I needed to keep him... his dad was going through some hard times, and it was best for Steven. Steven shuffled back and forth from our house to David’s house along with our other kids, not skipping a beat…he just fit in. After a few weeks we spoke to Steven’s dad and we all decided that it was best if Steven stayed for awhile, and not just on the weekends, everyday. He had just started 5th grade at Pacific Drive. Hudson & Jamisen were at Rolling Hills and Bryce was at Golden Hill. Coy was working out of town so Thank God for Gramma Zella and her help in getting everyone everywhere they needed to be. Between my mom, David & I we taxied around 4 kids to and from 3 different schools, football and dance every single day.

I’m not going to pretend it’s been easy… it’s a constant juggling act but it has been very rewarding. Steven has taught us all a lot, especially how to be patient and understanding. Early on we had to explain to all our kids the situation and why he needed us and why we needed him. Our kids had to share with another kid, share their belongings, their space and time & attention from their parents. They transitioned very well and I am so proud of all of them for opening their hearts to another brother. Steven isn’t just a Hurlburt anymore… He’s part of our family… He’s where he should be.

Fast forward 2 years and we now have THREE 13 year old boys at our house… plus the 10 year old princess. The best thing is that the boys are all at the same school! Steven is doing awesome! He started playing baseball last season and gave it 100%... it cannot be easy to play baseball for the first time at 12 years old with kids who have been playing since they were 5. He jumped in with both feet and gave it his all. I can’t wait to see how he does next season. He just started 7th grade at Ladera Vista and is giving it everything he’s got with FOUR HONORS classes, Spanish 1 and Technology. We cannot even tell you how proud of him we are! The boys are playing football for La Habra Pop Warner. Steven is working hard and earned a starting position on a team that went all the way to the Orange Bowl last season! They just played their first game and won 28-0, Steven had an interception and was SO happy! This kid has so much potential and heart… I’m so happy that we have the opportunity to watch him grow and be big influences in his young life… He has so much to offer this world.

Kids are expensive… we know… we have several… and they just get more expensive every year! Our football team has informed us that we WILL be playing in Hawaii at the end of the season. This is the main reason for our fundraiser…to help pay for Steven’s sports that he loves so much. Playing football in Hawaii with his team will be such an awesome experience and he deserves it 100%. Everything we raise will go to this Football trip to Hawaii and anything above that will help pay for his baseball season right after and everything needed for him to be successful. We believe wholeheartedly that kids need sports in their lives and Steven has such a bright future ahead of him. Thank You for reading this and if you can please donate anything at all we appreciate it with all our hearts! If you can't donate please SHARE! Thank you again
