My name is Steven Dover.  I am 27 years old and I am happily married to my beautiful wife Melissa.  We have been married since February of this year and we additionally bought our first house in March in Odessa, Fl. 

On June 22, I was diagnosed with stage 4 GIST cancer (Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors)

Here is the back story.
Around the beginning of June, I started having pain on the right side of the abdomen and we decided to go to my family doctor.  She told me that it could possibly be the gallbladder and she requested that I get an ultrasound done as soon as possible, so I scheduled it for June 8.  During the ultrasound, the radiologist confronted me stating that he found nothing wrong with the gallbladder, but he did find masses in the liver to which he showed strong concern.  He also scheduled a CT Scan for the next day and I returned home. That same evening, I was awoken by the worst abdomenal pain that I've ever felt in my life.  We rushed to the Emergency Room.  While there, I received another ultrasound, a CT Scan, and a MRI. The tests revealed that I have several masses in my liver (the biggest of which being about 4 inches in diameter) and one mass in my stomach.  They then preceded to do a liver biopsy and an endoscopy to take samples of the masses and send them over to pathology.  I was in the hosiptal from the 8th to the 13th June, right before I was sent home. One of the doctors came to me said that i have cancer. He didn't tell me what type of cancer nor did he tell me in what stage I was in.  I left the hospital that day with more questions then answers.

On June 22, I visited the oncologist, and she told me exactly what it is and how to treat it.  Thankfully, no chemotherapy nor radiation is required to combat the cancer, and surgery is not an option either because too much of the liver is infected by the tumors. The only option I have currently is the use of a targeted therapy drug, known as Gleevec. Gleevec will shrink the tumors down until surgery is option, which in hand will be the cure.

Any and all funds donated will be used to pay for the nessecary treatment, medical bills, and any other expenses that may ensue during this time. No donation is too small and all donations will be greatly appreciated.
