On Sunday June 25, the apartment in Buenos Aires of the family hosting me for the first part of my dissertation research was broken into while we were all out. Thankfully we are all safe and sound. However, among many things, my camera gear that has traveled the world with me for research and as my primary hobby was stolen today. The 100-400mm lens to capture whale breaches, the 24-105mm lens that crossed the Andes on horseback with me, the 50mm to capture vibrant colors in New Orleans, and the GoPro that I strapped to my head while white water rafting in Mendoza.
During the past 7 or 8 years, I have traveled to Argentina regularly, improving my language skills and learning about the culture while conducting my studies. My studies led me to many interesting opportunities to explore the country and its diverse resources, not only photographing its flora and fauna but also learning from different communities throughout the entire country. I am very fond of the region and happy to work with the great people and research teams I've met.
Photography has always been my passion, and my means of illustrating the importance of environmental conservation and the communities who benefit from sustainable resource management during my travels.
Much more than my photography gear was stolen - professional attire, workout attire, one of my Patagonia bags, medicine, 3 months of contact lenses, and gifts for my hosts, but I am only asking for money to help with the photography gear which matters most to me. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like I have insurance to cover this theft, so I would appreciate any and all help to purchase a new set of equipment so that I can continue to share my adventures and my research with the world through conference presentations, Instagram posts, and other media.
