Steff Whitcanack's GRS Surgery Support Fund
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Steff Eleanor Whitcanack, and I am undergoing Gender Reassignment Surgery on November 9th, 2022, at Mount Sinai in NYC. Mount Sinai is one of the top hospitals in the country for Transgender Health Care, and I couldn't be more ecstatic to have my procedure done here. Through constant appointments for bloodwork, physical health, mental health, and surgical prep over this year, I'm finally close to the big date! However, the surgery is just the beginning. This is a long and tedious recovery that, if not done correctly and with proper care, can become disastrous to the surgical area and me as a whole. Now, I am beyond prepared and have done everything I can to ensure I have everything I need to do this right! However, the one factor of my recovery that I am struggling with is the financial side of things.
This fundraiser will help me support myself through the long and challenging recovery time by covering the non-covered medical expenses and supporting me through the recovery. This recovery is intense and will last over multiple months on the short end. [Typical GRS recovery ranges from 6 months to a year before fully healed but can last longer with complications.] While medical insurance will cover some, it will not cover everything and does not include the three-month minimum healing period that requires constant bed rest and minimum movement. The fund proceeds will go to food, rent, any last-minute items for recovery, any possible emergency visits for potential complications, and the 30% of the surgery not covered by insurance.
I've been dreaming of this moment for over a decade and am so excited to have this happening. However, the financial burden of everyday expenses when I need to rest and focus on recovery is a stressor that I hope to eleviate most of through this page. Stress, Anxiety, and Depression are something I've struggled with all of my life, and all can be a massive inhibitor to my recovery. My goal is to get enough financial support and not to worry about the money aspect of my recovery time. I want this more surgery than anything and have worked so hard to get to where I am today. But I also want to do this correctly first, so I can bounce back healthier and happier than ever! That is why I am asking for your support.
Any amount you can donate is fantastic, and I cannot thank you enough for your generosity in supporting me through one of the most challenging times in my life.
All money raised will go solely to my recovery and the 30% chunk of the surgery cost not covered by insurance.
If you are unable to donate at this time, I completely understand! However, if you cannot donate, I kindly ask that you share this page so it can be seen and get more traction. No matter how hard it is for me to ask, I need this help.
I cannot thank everyone enough for the constant support and love you all have shown me throughout my life up until this point. Transitioning is very hard, and I am so proud of myself for making it this far. And I could not have done it without everyone's constant support! I'm at a huge step in my life, which so many people are not fortunate enough to experience in their trans lives, and that is not something I am looking past or taking for granted. I am beyond thankful for the opportunity to feel like I am in a body I finally feel comfortable and myself in. I honestly cannot wait and am so excited to take everyone on this journey with me!
Thank you again for everything <3,
Love, Steff Eleanor Whitcanack
