Hi, I’m Johnny, a close friend of John Robinson, a 74-year-old gentleman who has endured an incredibly tough past six months.
In mid-December of 2024, John was told he's being laid off with 2 weeks' notice, after 28 years as a dedicated security guard. His final shift ended at 11 PM on December 31st, 2024.
John was the kind of worker any company would be lucky to have. He showed up on holidays, in the cold, in the heat. But when it came time, they let him go with one final paycheck, no pension, no sendoff, no real support.
Shortly after, while looking for new employment, his car caught fire (as shown in the photos) and was declared totaled. His insurance company gave him $2,200, not nearly enough for anything reliable in today’s market.
Still trying to stay on his feet, John bought a used car for $1,800 from someone he trusted and worked with, someone he considered a friend. It turned out to be a lemon. He immediately had to put roughly $1,000 into repairs to keep it running.
And now, just last week, that car broke down again. It won’t start. He spent another $350, and it ran for a few days, only to break down once again. This time, he was told he needed an alternator, and it would be another $400.
He’s now 6 months out of a job, out of his savings, on foot in the Atlanta heat, has no internet, and his phone has been shut off. I’m helping however I can, driving him food and applying for jobs for him online. But he needs help now. Anything you can give means the world.
He’s dealing with health issues too, including cellulitis, likely from decades of hard labor and smoking (which he has since quit cold turkey for over a year now). As soon as he lands a job, if he's still without reliable transportation, he's prepared to take public transportation to get to work as he builds himself back up.
John and I worked together for years as security guards, and that’s how we became friends. I’ve watched him quietly show up for others, again and again, even when no one showed up for him. John deserves better, and however you can help is huge. I'll be frequently updating this story with new developments, including any job interviews, and sharing how funds are being used. Every dollar raised will go directly to John with full transparency.
