Our Stacy, loving mother of three, unexpectedly began suffering from a variety of mysterious symptoms in 2020. She landed in the hospital in Frederick a few times last year with numbness to her feet, blurry vision, and hallucinations, among other things. The numerous scans and tests revealed that she was experiencing nerve damage resulting from a tumor in her brain, and other organ failures.
The most frustrating part is that she was going from specialist to specialist and each of them pointed the finger at someone else to get a diagnosis. Thankfully, her health insurance covered many of these expenses.
Suddenly, things changed dramatically this week. She took a turn for the worse, and landed in the hospital in Frederick again. Her situation worsened and they transferred her to University of Maryland Medical Center's Shock Trauma in Baltimore. UM wants to transfer her to Johns Hopkins University Hospital (as we understand it, the insurance approved care at JHU, but not the treatment at UM).
Today is 2/20. Since 2/17, she's been under the watchful eye of the amazing angels at UM. Since we're in the age of COVID, nobody from our family has been able to be by Stacy's side. Right now, we're waiting for a bed to open up at JHU so that she can be transferred there. Unfortunately, her insurance will not be paying for the majority of the expenses at UM Shock Trauma.
There are so many questions, and so few answers. Our number one concern is her health, and the wellbeing of her kids, Genesis, Gio, and Kion. We're going to do whatever it takes to get her the treatment she needs. The last thing we want to worry about is how we're going to pay for the mountain of expenses that will greet her on the other side of this experience.
