Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Tulsa - the only shrine of its kind in the United States honoring this great saint of God who was martyred for being a Catholic priest during the height of the Cristeros War in Mexico, in 1928.
About the Artist:
Kayla Jones is a Catholic classical pianist from Tulsa, Oklahoma. Prior to her marriage in 2006, she was studying to be a concert pianist. She has tutored under many excellent teachers, including Mr. Elwyn Ratliff in Tulsa, and Dr. Roger Price of the University of Tulsa, with whom she has studied for over 10 years. She also spent a year studying with the internationally acclaimed Portuguese pianist Sequeira Costa at the University of Kansas. She has won awards and recognition through many competitions and masterclasses in Oklahoma and surrounding states throughout high school and college. Discerning a vocation to marriage and family life, Kayla chose not to pursue a career as a concert pianist, and now stays home to nurture, raise, and educate her three daughters. She seeks for opportunities to use her musical gifts for the glory of God and the edification of the Church. She served as music director of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church for three years, and now teaches a small number of piano students from home.
About the Shrine of St. Toribio Romo:
The parish of Ss. Peter and Paul has been collecting funds for several years to build a chapel in honor of St. Toribio Romo, patron saint of immigrants, and one of the priests martyred by the Mexican government during the 1920’s persecution of the Catholic faith in Mexico known as the Cristeros War. This chapel is intended to make St. Toribio Romo more widely known, and to provide support and sanctuary for the many immigrants who have flocked to this diocese for their spiritual needs
