Daisy's mission trip to Haiti

My story and it starts five years ago when I started attending St. Paul's Episcopalien Church in Bedford where we live. During this time I have come to love this community for many reasons but largely because it has been part of bringing out the best in me and pushing me to limits that I didn't know I could reach as an adult. I have taught, volunteered, sang and danced on stage and now I plan to travel to Haiti in February 2016.

This is one of several trips that various meidcal and non-medical people from St. Paul's have taken to support a local nursing school and work with a children's nutrition program.

The Faculty of Nursing Science of the Episcopal Univery of Haiti (FSIL) is the first and only four-year baccalaureate school of nursing in Haiti. These students then continue to work in Haiti. www.haitinursing.org. As they have in the past our group will bring much needed aid and go into the community to work medical clinics as practitioners and bringing students along for clinical experience and teach in the nursing school.

Our group will also continue developing a relationship with the Children's Nutrition Program www.cnphaiti.org. CNP is empowering and supporting women in Haitian communities by giving them the tools to care for their families. In doing so they identify a leader (mom) in the community and they make her the advocate for the program and give her resources to educate other women in the community to ensure a healthy future generation of Haitains.

During my week in Haiti I will be participating in many of the following ways including but not limited to; teaching english to nursing students, working at the clinics, manual labor and hopefully working with CNP in their efforts in the community.

I have had my eye on the trip since their return last year and couldn't stop thinking about it. I have asked myself numerous times why Haiti? My answer is because in my heart I know these people have been faced with challenges that I can't ever imagine and against all odds risen above them and continue to survive in extreme poverty and (sadly) corruption. In talking to the previous participants they report what the media never does and that is a people with a hope and faith that they can make their country a better place. I want to be if even a small part of raising them a little closer to being able to fullfill their dream.

Any donation is helpful and it will all go from me to the mission's goals; funding scholarships, providing needed items as told to us by the school and CNP liasons. No funds go to the mission logistics.

I thank you in advance for reading about the program. In no way feel obligated to donate as I know the requests of donations are never ending. We would all appreciate some thoughts sent our way as we prepare for the trip and naturally while we are there.

Love,
Daisy
