Three Peaks Challenge - In Memory of Ben

We're North East lads, and unfortunately, the North East suffers the worst suicide rates in the country and has done for many years. We all know how hard it is for men to talk openly about their struggles. We're trying to do our part to change that; in memory of Ben.

On June 28th, the day of Ben's memory, we will be walking the 3 peaks challenge raising money for SPACE North East. SPACE is a Sunderland-based, Community Interest Company that helps men in the area with depression, loneliness and anxiety through talking groups, educational events, seminars and attempts to help drive the North East forward in suicide prevention. We are taking part in SPACE's "Walking to get blokes talking" campaign.

SPACE was founded to provide support and free, weekly support groups to men across the North East who are suffering with their mental health. The founder, James, suffered from depression for 10 years, almost taking his own life, however, has since begun to dedicate his life to providing support to those who need it, without waiting lists or costs.

All of the money donated will go to the running costs of SPACE; helping them to provide programmes of support for men, including weekend retreats, guest speakers, education, courses and much more.

The National Three Peaks Challenge involves climbing the three highest peaks of Scotland, England and Wales, often within 24 hours.

The total walking distance is 23 miles (37km) and the total ascent is 3064 metres (10,052ft) - twice the ascent of the Yorkshire Three Peaks, over a similar total walking distance. The total driving distance is 462 miles.
