The Soundpapered Album: Let's make this book!

This year, I am working on the Soundpapered Album, the book of my live drawings of live music. It’s about time:

Since 2014, you've seen Soundpapered work online, in galleries, in Times Square and across New York City on Link NYC, at New York Winter Jazz Festival, at the Apple store, on Grammy winners' promotional animations and films, on Okayplayer, in the UK jazz press, and much 'liked' by fans, followers and the featured musicians on Instagram: Next, this book!

The Album's design, production and distribution depends on my sustained efforts and your support. You're invited to help make this happen:

Ten years of Live drawing/Live music

This 100-page anthology will feature the best drawings, animations and previously unseen photographs from a decade of Soundpapered's live from 9(pm) to 5(am) archive.

The Album will be an original, illustrated survey of lost legends, enduring elders and rising stars of contemporary Black American and British social music: Pharoah Sanders, Chick Corea, Trugoy the Dove, Lou Donaldson, George Clinton, Herbie Hancock, Thundercat, Kendrick Lamar, Kamasi Washington, Robert Glasper, Esperanza Spalding, Gregory Porter, Shabaka Hutchings, Nubya Garcia, Julius Rodriguez and many more.

A record among records

Formatted 12″ square, it will match the dimensions of an LP, the Album will belong not on a bookshelf but in your vinyl collection, the sleeve notes to accompany the albums, a visual record alongside your records.

Fun-loving genius

Documenting this obsessive project in short essays, interview excerpts, anecdotes and quotes will bring to life the context and purpose of social drawing, and remind anyone who has ever been the audience why showing up to gigs is not only affirming but essential.

What's the cash for?

In 2017, I successfully raised funds for the Soundpapered solo show at Okayspace, and since other crowdfunding platforms charge fees and demand lots of social media froth to secure funds, I am happy choose this platform again for this campaign.
