Hi, my name is Beth. I am helping to raise funds for our dear Mauro who has given so much to all of us. As most of you know, Mauro has been fighting stage IV colon cancer for the past 8 months. The treatment has been difficult and he is fighting daily to maintain his weight and strength. Mauro is still working every day that he is able, teaching Italian language and sharing the beauty of Sienese culture with students from around the world. He will know soon if he has become a candidate for surgical removal of his primary tumor after completing many rounds of chemotherapy. For decades Mauro has found joy in staying fit riding a bicycle and sharing those rides with great friends. Due to his treatment, it has become unsafe and difficult for him to be out cycling on the roads as the medications have thinned his blood and caused sensitivity to cold. We think it would be wonderful for him to maintain his physical and psychological strength by doing what he loves. We would like to give him an indoor bicycle for Christmas that he can ride in the safety and warmth of home. It would be best for Mauro to use a recumbent bike so that it does not put pressure on his intestines or surgical wounds. This type of bicycle is a bit expensive so we are reaching out to ask for help. Any money raised would go towards the purchase of this bicycle for him. If there is anything remaining, it would be used to help pay for treatment or transportation/lodging at a private cancer center in Milan or Innsbruck. Ciao, mi chiamo Beth. Sto aiutando a raccogliere fondi per il nostro caro Mauro che ha dato così tanto a tutti noi. Come molti di voi sanno, Mauro sta combattendo contro un cancro al colon in stadio IV negli ultimi 8 mesi. Il trattamento è stato difficile e lui combatte ogni giorno per mantenere il suo peso e la sua forza. Mauro continua a lavorare ogni giorno in cui può, insegnando la lingua italiana e condividendo la bellezza della cultura senese con studenti provenienti da tutto il mondo. Presto saprà se potrà essere candidato alla rimozione chirurgica del suo tumore primario dopo aver completato molti cicli di chemioterapia. Per decenni Mauro ha trovato gioia nel mantenersi in forma andando in bicicletta e condividendo quelle uscite con grandi amici. A causa del trattamento, per lui è diventato pericoloso e difficile uscire in bicicletta sulle strade, poiché i farmaci hanno reso il suo sangue più fluido e hanno causato sensibilità al freddo. Pensiamo sarebbe meraviglioso per lui mantenere la sua forza fisica e psicologica facendo ciò che ama. Vorremmo regalargli una bicicletta da camera per Natale, che possa usare nella sicurezza e nel calore della casa. Sarebbe meglio che Mauro usasse una bici da posizione semiseduta, in modo da non mettere pressione sui suoi intestini o sulle ferite chirurgiche. Questo tipo di bicicletta è un po' costoso, quindi ci stiamo rivolgendo a chiunque possa aiutarci. Tutti i soldi raccolti saranno destinati all'acquisto di questa bicicletta per lui. Se dovesse avanzare qualcosa, verrebbe utilizzato per contribuire alle cure o al trasporto/alloggio in un centro oncologico privato a Milano o Innsbruck.
