Hi everyone. I am Sheree, Sophie's Aunty.
This is is a page dedicated to the gorgeous Sophie Harling who was born 11 December 2015 to parents Wayne and Lizzie Harling.
In the past 4 weeks Sophie has been diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1. This is a rare neurological genetic disorder where approximately 1 in 6000 babies are born affected and is a life limiting disease. It is also known as Werdnig-Hoffman Disease. SMA causes Sophie's muscles to weaken and shrink and affects the muscles closest to the centre of her body. This condition caused severe muscle weakness which affects Sophie's movement, eating, swallowing and breathing. She is unable to support her own head or body but is able to make up for this with the smiles, giggles and gabbling that she constantly makes for her parents, visitors, doctors and nurses.
Sophies journey so far has seen her in Alderhey Childrens hospital and she is currently at Leighton Hospital in their home town of Crewe until Wayne and Lizzies home is adapted to ensure Sophie has all the equipment they need at home such as a special/adapted pram and car seat, bath and a bed/cot.
This page has been set up to raise funds for Sophie's magical adventures that are on the horizon, mostly Disneyland Paris for her to meet the princesses along with Mickey and Minnie Mouse and to build some memorieswith her parents and family over the coming months.
We would be eternally grateful for any donation that can be given and we will share with you Sophie's journey together with pictures and videos. Any funds over what is needed will be donated to the SMA association for research and to support other families and children who are going through this too.
