Hello! My name is Ashli, and I am hoping to raise the funds necessary to be able to get my daughter an adaptive jogging stroller so that I can greatly expand her access to the world.
Sophia is 14 years old. She has cerebral palsy and epilepsy, and is completely wheelchair-bound, as she has been her entire life. In March of this year, she had a spinal fusion, and that has helped her so much with seating and her well-being in general, but she is still limited to her mobility aides which can be very bulky, difficult to steer, and isn't great on most terrains other than paved areas meant for human traffic. Sophia is a bright and happy girl whose smile touches everyone who sees it and I'll do anything to keep her smiling as she has gone through so many difficulties at such a young age. She loves the outdoors and exploring, but always has to enjoy from a distance instead of up close and personal.
An adaptive jogging stroller is a lightweight, three wheeled wheelchair designed specifically for children with disabilities. It is designed for easy navigation to reach places a standard wheelchair can't reach so that children with special needs can access more places and environments. They're also more flexible, collapsible, and easier to transport than a standard wheelchair.
I absolutely hate to ask for help but I'm willing to swallow my pride if it means I can give my daughter more access to a world that largely isn't designed for her. Unfortunately, insurance doesn't cover a lot of mobility aides that they don't consider a “necessity” so comfort and accessibility are typically reserved for those who can afford them outright, which is unfortunately not the case for us. Any amount towards this would be a great help to us and would be a life and game changer for a girl who just wants to see and experience more of the world. Please consider helping us make that happen! I would be forever grateful. Thank you.
