Chile Ambiente is a non-profit environmental organization located in Santiago, Chile that is currently working with indigenous Mapuche communities to improve their quality of life in an environmentally and economically sustainable way. One of these communities, the Mahuidanche, does not have electricity or lighting. An intern from the United States, Chloe Malouf, is leading a project to bring solar powered lights to the Mahuidanche community with the help of Kizen Solar Lamps. Light is not something we should take for granted as a society. Lighting for the households allows the 60 young people there to read and study when the get back from their long walk from school in another town. Light is also a matter of safety and general quality of life. It was important to me to bring in solar light specifically because it is a way of introducing a rural community to renewable energy and it is environmentally sustainable. To purchase these solar lamps, we need the help of people like you! This is a small step for this community, but they deserve our help and the access to light that could make a huge difference in their lives.
