My name is Jon, some of you know me as Sol, or Burn potentially. I am a black, queer, furry artist, and the son of a family who put their trust in the American system to work.
I’m in debt and I need help.
Background:
I officially became an artist for commission in 2013.
I continued my work as I went through 2 local jobs, college, and a LA internship. Despite working through my undergraduate degree with a 3.8 GPA, I accrued over 200,000.00 USD in debt from a private loan with no option but to pay it off myself.
After college I continued working, I eventually ended up at a low paying News Station with no decent ladder for career growth. I lucked on a remote design job in 2019 and moved to Ohio, where I got let go in mid-2020. I pivoted to focusing solely on furry artwork, hoping to hold out for another opportunity.
Through this time period, I ran FFV3, Furry LGBT+ flag, Socialist Teeth, and more contributing at least near 5k+ of donation work, designed merch and NSFW art on my alt account at the same time to keep the lights on for years.
My hard work paid off, and I was the MFF Guest of Honor in 2022 and hoped it would be the opportunity to become stable.
I ended up losing money with a bad launch.
While continuing to fight my bills I lost better housing, and my conditions worsened till it became clear I can’t beat this alone.
Health:
All of the work I’ve done to keep myself afloat has had a cost. If you were to talk to a family member, close friend of mine, or anyone who knows me well, they will tell you I am constantly working. Some may say they’re concerned, and they are right to be.
To maintain the workflow I need to keep myself afloat:
I am not able take healthy breaks
I am not able to care of my body
I am not able to have a healthy work-life balance, and it is effecting my mental health and I am pushing myself through burnout.
100k is a insane amount of money to ask for. I don’t expect an easy out and am still working, I however can’t get out of this hole on my own. I have paid off at least 100,000.00 of the initial amount. 51,000.00 of it being from solely commission work I have done, and I still have a ways to go.
I’ve made merch and set up a store with items to sell, in return for any support. If you can manage to spare anything, can share or tell a friend, I’m grateful.
Donated money will be reserved in a separate bank I set up and direct my debts to.
