Soju was born on April 17th, 2009. She’s a mixed Pitbull and Jack Russel Terrier, and she was adopted by my brother when she was 3 months old.
She has been through a lot with our family and unfortunately, she passed away on 11/5/2015. Her sickness started on 10/3/2015; she wasn’t feeling well after we took a walk. I took her to Animal AM Emergency Clinic in Pasadena immediately. After all the blood work and the tests that we ran that night, the doctor told me that she suspected she had IMHA (Immune-Medicated Hemolytic Anemia). This type of disease is a rare disease, where the dog’s own immune system attack it’s own red blood cells. That night she was hospitalized and the doctor wanted me to take her to a specialty group the next morning to run more tests.
After all the visits and treatment for a month we saw some improvement but still could not find the cause of it. We all know our pets are just like our kids, you want them to heal ASAP and you want them to not feel any pain. But bad news came on 11/4/2015 that she was having a hard time breathing so my parents took her to the ER again for a blood transfusion. But unfortunately we got a phone call on 11/5/2015 around 5pm from the doctor saying that it’s time to let her go due to that her lung were full of fluids. So I had to make my decision on that day, I did not want to see her in pain anymore… so I decided to put her down.
Soju is a sweet heart, during her sickness she always tried her best to eat and walk around the house. She still greeted you when you come home. Her treatment for the whole October really made me see what kind of dog she is. Her medication (Prednisone) made her want to urinate almost every 2 hours but she will never pee inside the house. Instead, she always barks at me or waits by the door for us to let her go out. She even did that during middle of the night. It’s been 2 weeks since she passed away, it’s the toughest time of the year to have this thing happen but I know she is in a better place now.

The above was written by Gloria when we asked for Soju's story. Gloria's family has just picked up Soju's ashes yesterday after waiting two weeks for the vets to release her. They held a small ceremony in their backyard last night. The buried Soju at the base of a small apple tree that they hope to watch grow over the years. Unfortunately, the costs of the Soju's medical bills are quite high and we are trying to get a portion of the amount covered for her family so they won't have additional struggles during this time. Please help out if you can, anything at all will be very much appreciated. Thank you!
