Hello Family & Friends,
As you all know, I have been playing softball since I was 5 years old. Thanks to some hard work and great coaching, I was fortunate to receive a scholarship to continue playing softball at Cal State Monterey Bay. I am currently in my first semester there, studying Human Communications, practicing multiple times a week, conditioning, and volunteering at various community events. Just recently I have received a special invitation to play softball for a team made of up student athletes from throughout the country. This team will be playing in Italy between June 5-16 and I am incredibly excited! That’s the great news, but my challenge is coming up with the cost to participate, which will be approximately $5000 total. The bulk of the cost is $3900, which will cover roundtrip airfare from New York to Italy, lodging, some meals, uniforms, and the cost of guided tours throughout such cities as Florence, Venice, Rome and Milan. The remaining $1100 will hopefully cover the cost of roundtrip airfare from the Bay Area to New York, an overnight (or two) stay in New York before taking the main flight with the rest of the team to Italy, and other incidentals. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. The idea of playing softball in another country representing the USA is like a dream come true. The educational component of this trip makes it even better. Normally, I would get a summer job and try to earn some of the cost of this trip on my own, but unfortunately, the trip is scheduled right after the school year ends. The time commitments of school and softball make getting a job right now a bit too difficult. For these reasons I have come to “gofundme” in an attempt to raise the money to make the trip.
