Steven's Story

Hi everyone thanks for taking the time to reads Steven story.

We are attempting to raise money for Steven through this page and are we are also doing a Fundraising SkyDive in the aid of Steven.

Due to current funding situations and the need to ensure that Steven has the best quality of life we can offer him. This will enable us to provide a sensory room inside and much-needed garden space/facilities outside that best benefits Steven and his disabilities.

In May 2014 aged just 29, Steven a young man from Salford/Manchester became very ill with the sudden onset of a severe form of encephalopathy with CATASTROPHIC  consequences. Steven deteriorated rapidly within only a few weeks losing the ability to do anything for himself including speaking, only able to move slightly, eventually partially losing his sight and even losing the ability to swallow properly and having to be fed through a feeding tube.

During his final days in the hospital, Steven got married to his partner Robert, of 7 years, who he is now totally reliant upon, not having the ability to do anything for himself. After the wedding, it wasn't long before the hospital discharged him home in that there was nothing more they could do other than wait for the worst to happen and led to Steven being given a statement of intent with only days to live.

The following days and weeks ahead were not very nice having to watch Steven each and every day get worse until he was finally unable to do anything or respond in any way. The palliative care team were telling us to expect the worse any day and this continued for a few months.

Steven got past Christmas which really wasn’t expected and we then got to march when all of a sudden Steven smiled then laughed, and this was deemed a slight improvement in that the previous few months he was non-responsive in any way. Steven was now responding slightly making noise or smiling and laughing, unfortunately, the improvement pretty much stopped there and steven is now trapped in his own body, Steven also started having up to 20 seizures every day this has now been the way for now for  6 years, Steven also had all his teeth removed due to severe gum infections.

Steven has suffered so much the last 6 years, his hearing is the only thing that wasn’t affected he now seems to understand what is said and can respond by using his eyebrows or his smile. Even though everything Steven has been through he never stops laughing and is always ready to smile for the camera.

Steven is in desperate need of a new specialised disability bed including the introduction of a sensory room and full garden makeover and wheelchair accessible as well as a much-needed break to help improve his quality of life. As we do not have the funds for this we want to help him by crowdfunding. Let's all help get Steven the quality of life he deserves, Can you help us!

The bed is a specialised bed that will help steven as steven needs a lot of moving and turning to stop pressure sores and a specialised self turning bed would prevent this happening to steven and make him more comfortable and less reliant upon others.

The sensory room will be a place for steven to sit and relax and stimulate his senses and he is currently unable to do this in any way

The garden makeover will be specially designed to accommodate stevens specialised wheelchair and give steven the ability to go into the garden and get some fresh air and enjoy the outside again and make space a nice tranquil place for steven to relax and spent lots of his time, at the moment this is a problem as there is nowhere to manoeuvre his specialised chair properly.

a much-needed break for Steven as the expense for a holiday with stevens needs is very expensive as steven hasn't had a break since he became poorly.

Stevens partner Robert gave up his job and cares for Steven full time on his own without any help -these things for Steven will also help ease some of the pressure on Robert as you can imagine this has been really tough for him also.

Steven was a young a fun-loving young man who was a design designer and had a fantastic future ahead of him which has been  CRUELLY snatched away which has totally changed both Stevens and Roberts life dramatically. Steven has lost EVERYTHING and we would like to just give him some quality of life as at the moment he really has non whatsoever.

Steven has now been trapped inside his body for 6 years now and  been stuck in the house in the same two rooms with no stimulation at all, this has gone on far too long and this need to change

Can YOU help us achieve this?

Thank you for reading Stevens story
