They say everything happens for a reason and I have also heard a myth that we go thru certain things in life so that we may help someone else navigate a similar journey later in life.  

I had the privilege of meeting Felecia as I was preparing to return to work after a very difficult pregnancy during my search for the perfect person to care for my daughter.  There was something special about her from the moment we met and we quickly formed a close bond.   She supported me as I transitioned back into my role as a career woman and gave me the ability to return knowing my daughter was safe and being loved and cared for by the best possible person.  

Here is a little back story - I lost my mother and best friend to Ovarian Cancer when I was 11 weeks pregnant.  She was BRCA positive.  I am BRCA positive.  I openly discussed the life altering genetic mutation with Felecia and we discussed my journey as a previvor and what that meant for both myself and my family.  

In September Felecia was diagnosed with breast cancer.  We also learned that Felecia is also BRCA positive.  What are the chances that would happen?

Felecia is a hard working and devoted woman unlike anyone else I know.  She is also a single mother with a 4 year old daughter and 14 year old son at home as well as two grown daughters and a son that she is currently supporting as he is away at school.  

She has only been able to work intermittently as a daycare provider which has caused significant financial difficulties for her and her family due to all of the doctor appointments.  She is scheduled to have major surgery in a few weeks and then will begin intense treatment followed by more surgeries.

She has had to move herself and the two youngest children out of their home and are staying with family.  The bills are accumulating and adding to her stress which is the last thing she needs right now.  With all of this going on, I assure you that you would never know it by looking at her because Felecia has not spent one minute feeling bad for herself or complaint.
