Show Brian our love as he battles cancer

Brian has travelled the world and lived in the most beautiful parts of Canada with Doug, his husband over 20+ years, making friends and memories along the way.

Brian and Doug moved to Nova Scotia in 2019 when Doug accepted a job at a prestigious resort on the Southshore. They decided to stay awhile and and were thrilled to find a beautiful house to call home near the ocean.

Brian, Doug and their “kids”… their yellow labs, Daisy and Zeus were thrilled with the move to the East Coast.

Their journey took a very big turn earlier last year when Brian when a CT scan detected one large mass of around 9cm and a cluster of masses. He was diagnosed with non- Hodgkin lymphoma - follicular lymphoma, and diabetes. Follicular lymphoma, is non-curable but treatable..

Since the diagnosis Brian has started an aggressive treatment regime, travelling 2 hours to Halifax and Bridgewater each month for several days for chemotherapy.

Tougher still because their support network of friends and family are in Ontario and all around the world. Doug is solely responsible for driving him to/from appointments and tending to him daily.

Brian’s health has deteriorated in recent months and he now requires 24/7 attention as he now relies on a cane and has limited mobility and has had some bad falls resulting in a fractured ribs and vertebrae.

These last few  treatments have been extremely tough on Brian and his body. After treatment, Doug and Brian will be in partial remission, however there is an average relapse within 8-9 years.  Could be earlier could be longer. They just don't know.

Out of concern for his husband and his safety, in June 2021 Doug made the difficult, but necessary, decision to quit his job to focus solely on Brian’s treatment.

With bill payments piling up, as well new accessibility renovations and modifications needed at the house, they are facing a difficult road ahead financially.

There is no cure for Brian’s cancer.  Doug and Brian are hopeful treatment would help stabilize his condition but that will take months, or possibly years.

Brian has been informed his quality of life will continue to deteriorate over time and he will require treatment every 3 months for the rest of his life.

He is in the fight of his life and the last thing that should be on his mind are finances. Please donate and help lessen this burden for Doug and Brian.

️‍ And Happy Pride Month!
