Mariposa is about perseverance in the face of overwhelming odds when the world has given you every reason to give up.
Through the lives of two homeless sisters, we explore womanhood at its most vulnerable and resilient.
One sister embodies hope despite homelessness, unemployment, and the uncertainty of being an immigrant in a country that no longer welcomes her. The other sister embodies the weight of grief for all that has been lost, unable to see that there is a good life beyond the one she left behind.
We join their story on a day when basic survival seems impossible and daring to dream seems like a luxury they can’t afford. The day reveals the common experiences of so many women who start at the bottom, dare to dream and get discouraged over and over. How do you keep going? How do you transform the discouragement and pain of the past into true personal growth and a life that promises hope and new possibilities?
This project is brought to you by a diverse all-female team, whose stories and experiences inspired every aspect of this story. Every donation supports not just a short film, but a space where underrepresented voices are empowered and heard. By supporting our project, you not only are supporting the real-life resilience of everyday women, but helping to amplify the importance of turning setbacks, struggles and sacrifices into something beautiful and hopeful.
