My name is Mahmudul Hasan (Jowel). I am studying for my MA in Film Production at the University of Greenwich, London. Currently, I am working on a short fiction film as part of my final submission.
The short film is titled Deja Dream.
Logline:
Ethan Sullivan (25) stops dreaming for months and seeks help from a careless, TikTok-addicted psychiatrist (55). Their surreal encounters evolve into philosophical explorations of dreams, reality, and existence, until Ethan wakes up from this dream. He reencounters the psychiatrist as a job interviewer in a real job interview.
Characters:
Ethan Sullivan is a 25-year-old man living in an old, rusty establishment. He is disorganised and anxiety-ridden, constantly overthinking, compulsive, and trapped in his mind. He resembles someone who could have been an artist under perfect circumstances.
However, in the latter part of the film, he is a composed, highly organised individual, the epitome of a conventional, ideal man, a career-driven, materialistic individual, unlike his dream self.
Nigel Mindfry is a 55-year-old eccentric psychiatrist in London. He is careless, inattentive, unprofessional, rude, and addicted to TikTok. Despite these, he possesses philosophical knowledge about dreams, reality and existence; overall, he is a confusing yet intriguing individual.
The story explores the blend of simplicity and complexity of existential mystery.

My personal experiences inspired this story and its characters. I am passionate about this project, and I believe this narrative has the potential to resonate with audiences worldwide, regardless of their diverse backgrounds and experiences.
I have over five years of experience in the visual arts, having held various roles, including director, assistant director, screenplay writer, and photographer. I have worked on a range of projects, including short films, documentaries, advertisements, and experimental films.
Additionally, my experience as an assistant director at Half Stop Down, a film production company in Bangladesh, has given me valuable insights into the industry, as well as a deep understanding of the art, aesthetics, and techniques involved in visual storytelling, which makes me hopeful about the realisation and creation of the film.
I am fortunate to have an exceptional team of artists and crew working on this project, which will help bring the story to life on screen and create a compelling art form.
I envision marking a global platform with this short film. My distributor and I plan to submit this film to prestigious film festivals. After achieving success at the festivals, we aim to expand our reach to various streaming platforms.
This film is crucial for me to make, as it could be a breakthrough for many of us in the creative industry.
Although all my crew and artists are working on this project on a volunteer basis, most of the locations I have secured are supported by various sources. Our university provides all the necessary equipment and other support, but there are still significant production costs, including transportation, meals, props, and miscellaneous expenses. To bear these essential costs, I need your support.
We have completed our first slot of shooting, but we still have the remaining part of the second slot of shooting and the post-production, which requires significant cost.
